Nature tripping, including hiking and camping in the mountains, have become a growing hobby for many millennial Filipinos — and that includes us.
Unfortunately, there isn’t really a lot of options here in Cebu (we’ve listed 13 campsites and mountains so far but there are a few more to explore) because ours is such a tiny island. Often, we envy those living in the Luzon area as there are plenty of day hike options that require less than a day to complete, including travel time from Manila.
Not quite convinced?
Well, Gideon Lasco of the well-known Pinoy Mountaineer website has released the ultimate day hike guide called Day Hike and Nature Walks from Manila.
The book, published by Primer Group of Companies via their advocacy arm, C.O.R.E. (Center for Outdoor Recreation and Expedition), is divided into six categories. It lists down 22 mountains and peaks under Geologic Wonders, Tropical Rainforests, Open Trails and Woodlands, Waterforms, Seascapes and Historical Trails.
According to Gideon (whom I now have a major crush on hahaha), his fascination for the outdoors started back when he was still little. His dad was an environmental engineer and he grew up in Los Baños so he basically had the whole forest as his playground. To date, he has climbed more than 150 mountains all throughout the country and hiked around 20 countries across six contents. Antartica remains to be on his bucket list — for now.
Primer’s CORE program aims to promote tourism, travel, and exploration of the outdoors as well as provide proper education and information dissemination for the community. This is the sixth book published under their advocacy arm.
You can get copies of your book at ROX Bonifacio High Street, ROX Ayala Center Cebu and ROX Marquee Mall in Pampanga for just Php390.

I love hiking! The problem is I’m not allowed to hike too much or to places far from where I am. I’m in Cebu, which is great as it is because Cebu has lots of trek-friendly places. (I love your post on camp sites, by the way.) My dream hike or trek goal for this year (and last year or next year) would be Mt. Pulag. Someday, Mt. Pulag, I shall conquer you. 🙂
Great blog! More posts. :3
Thank you, Hannah. There a few in this list that are super easy to go to, like OPeak and Chalet Hills. I’ve also yet to go to Mt. Pulag! Hopefully next year, too.
Thanks for dropping by!
